ORIGINS

Epslog’s roots go back to the 1990s at the University of Minnesota, where scratch testing was initially developed to study PDC drill-bit behaviour. The team soon realized that thesame approach could deliver continuous rock-strength information along the core, with much less destruction than conventional testing. This engineering insight became the foundation of Epslog. Epslog was founded in Liège in 2005 by former students of the UMN determined to turn this research into practical industrial technology.

TECHNOLOGY

From the start, Epslog developed its own hardware and software in-house. Continuous improvement, driven by real field challenges, gradually expanded scratch testing into abroader multi-sensor core-characterization workflow. When customers questioned whether measured variations reflected true geology, Epslog added imaging and complementary measurements — an early step toward the integrated philosophy behind CoreDNA™ today.

MILESTONES

1990s

Scratch-test research at the University of Minnesota.

Late 90s

Early industry deployment — First systems installed and tested with Shell and Total Energies.

2005

Epslog founded in Liège.

2006

First commercial project with an Australian operator.

2019

CoreDNA™ introduced to the Norwegian industry.  Epslog expanded from scratch testing to integrated core digitalization.

Today

CoreDNA™ deployed internationally with local representation in US and ME and widely adopted in Norway, where it has become part of the routine core analysisworkflow for many operators. Epslog has been successfully digitalizing more than 36 000 ft of core in Norway, including legacy core projects.

CREDIBILITY

Epslog’s technology has been challenged, validated and improved through collaboration with major industry players. These early adopters played an important role in proving the value of continuous core measurements and supporting the evolution of the technology.

THE TEAM

Epslog brings together engineers, scientists and developers with backgrounds in physics, rock mechanics, reservoir engineering, instrumentation, software and data science. This multidisciplinary culture has been part of the company since its academic origins.
